The Vision Premier Visa prepaid card is very typical of most cards in this category. Its benefits are similar to most of its competitors and it also charges average fees for most transactions. There are, however, some ways to use this card that minimize some of the fees making it an excellent choice for some usage patterns.

Fees & Charges:   Excellent

Characteristic of most of the cards in our review of prepaid credit cards, the Vision Premier Visa charges an activation fee of $9.95. Though it’s not made extremely on the issuer’s web site, customers can request to have that fee refunded by submitting a simple form. That’s a pretty simple way to save ten bucks.

Rather than the monthly fee required by most prepaid cards, Vision Premier charges a rather irritating $ .95 weekly fee but that, too, can be refunded if the customer participates in the direct deposit program with a minimum deposit of $500 per month or completes 15 or more transactions monthly. Even signature transaction fees, that is to say purchases made using a signature rather than a PIN, are free.

So what fees are actually charged by Vision Premier Visa? Frankly, most of Vision Premier Visa’s fees are rather small but there’s potential for there to be a lot of them. First, there’s a $ .95 fee charged for each purchase made using a PIN. There’s also a $ .95 charge for each bill paid online. Cash withdrawals, whether from an ATM or cashier, cost $1.95 each. Transfers of funds can be made from one Vision Premier Visa card to another but that also incurs a $ .95 fee. Similarly, there’s a $ .95 charge for making a balance inquiry at an ATM or if you attempt to withdraw funds and the transaction is declined.

Like other prepaid cards, spending doesn’t create debt so there’s no monthly bill to be paid and account management, including viewing the monthly statement, is generally expected to be done online. You can, nonetheless, get a paper statement form Vision Premier for a $2.95 fee. Getting a replacement card due to theft or loss of a card triggers a $4.95 charge.
